Mangaluru, Jul 7: All of us know about the environment but our knowledge goes in vain if we are unable to sensitize others on the cause of conservation of forests. Vanamahotsava, a week long festival of planting trees is organized every year in the first week of July across India.
The whole staff of The Yenepoya School celebrated ‘Vanamahotsava’ on Wednesday, July 7 on the school premises.
Smitha welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the day. The programme was graced by esteemed dignitaries, Dr Elias Gerald D'Silva, assistant professor, PG Department, St Aloysius Autonomous College, Mishria Javeed, campus director and Grace Noronha, principal TYS.
The dignitaries were then requested to plant saplings and inaugurate The Yenepoya Forest. Speaking on the importance of forests, Dr D'Silva stressed avoiding felling trees and to resort to planting more trees to keep the environment safe and clear. He also suggested educating children on the importance of growing trees and preserving forests. "Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not greed. So let us all pledge to protect our environment," he said.
Smitha thanked the dignitaries and all members present.
