Madikeri, Jul 5: Two adult elephants and a baby elephant died in two separate incidents in Coorg district, here.

A male elephant and a baby elephant among them have died at Nagarahole National Park, near Nittur gram of South Coorg. Experts suspect that the male elephant was about 12 to 15 years old and the baby elephant was about a month old.

ASF officer Gopal rushed to the spot along with other forest department staff after being informed that their carcasses were found near the river bank. It is suspected due to injury marks that the baby elephant died in a tiger attack.

It might have died on Saturday night. “The cause of the death will be known after obtaining its post mortem report,” said Srimangala zone forest officer Veerendra.
