Mangaluru: Vaccination drive held for family members of journalists

Mangaluru, Jun 23: Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Association and district administration organised a free vaccination drive for the family members of journalists in Mangalore Press Club here on Wednesday, June 23.

District health officer (DHO), Dr Kishore Kumar after inaugurating the vaccination drive said, "Everyone should receive the Covid-19 vaccine to contain the spread of the pandemic. As the availability of vaccines is in various phases, initial, priority is given to people who are above 45 years. Also, vaccines will be administered to above 18 years on a priority basis."

"As the journalists tend to be on the field when it is about securing information, the government decided to vaccinate journalists and their family members on priority. Hence, the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Association has organised this vaccination drive to vaccinate family members of journalists," he said.

As many as 550 journalists, their family members, newspaper agents and their families received the jab. The vaccination drive was also held in Yekkur Primary Health Center under the initiative of Dr Rehana and Dr Soumya.

Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Association president, Shrinivas Indaje welcomed the gathering and general secretary, Ibrahim Adkasta rendered the vote of thanks. Executive committee member, RC Bhat compered the programme.
