Udupi, Jun 22: “People of the state are facing hardship due to the lockdown imposed by the ruling BJP government. The economic package that is announced now is meagre. So suitable economic package should be declared immediately,” opined Congress and like-minded organization in the protest they held in this regard in front of the office of the sitting BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Office bearers and workers of political parties like Congress, SDPI, JD (S), social welfare organizations like Udupi district Muslim Federation, JIH, Sahabalve, DSS, PFI and many other organizations took part in the protest.

Speaking on the occasion, social worker Amrith Shenoy said, “People of various sectors are in dire straits due to the lockdown. The budget of the state is Rs 2.5 lac crore. However, the MLAs of the ruling BJP government, instead of giving suitable compensation to the public, are fighting like children.

“BJP MLA Yatnal says that Vijayendra, son of CM Yediyurappa is actually running the government. MLA Vishwanath accused his own party of involving in a scam of Rs 20,000 crore in a tender. The ruling government is involved in a cockfight and has forgotten the hapless public. MLA RAghupati Bhat does not know the priority. Instead of investing money on agriculture of fallow land let him distribute the same among the poor people.”

Sunder Master said, “It is not possible to measure the damage that is done to the downtrodden of the society due to the Covid lockdown. BJP instead of providing compensation is involved in bed blocking, caste politics and distribution of vaccines to their own people. I am not saying that they have to sell their personal properties and announce the package. We are urging the government to provide compensation from the money of taxpayers. An attempt is being made to fool people by announcing a package of just some crore rupees. Families of those who have died of Covid are not getting the compensation.”

Abdul Aziz Udyavara of WPI, Veronica Cornelio, Congress leader and Yogish Shetty also spoke on the occasion.

Municipal councillor Ramesh Kanchan, Hussain Kodibengre, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Nisar Udupi, Munir Kalmady of PFI, Ilyas Sastana of SDPI, Keerthi Shetty, Shahid Ali, Ramesh Kanchan, Jyothi Shetty, Arbaaz of SIO, Zakhariya of Solidarity and Yasin Malpe of Muslim federation were present.
