Kumbh mela was biggest super spreader event: AICC official

Panaji, Jun 19 (IANS): All India Congress Committee general secretary Dinesh Gundu Rao, on Saturday, said that the Kumbh mela organised in Uttarakhand amid the second Covid wave, was the "biggest super spreader event in the world", even as he blamed Prime Minister Narendra modi for not doing enough to rein in the rapid spread of infections earlier this year.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Rao also said that despite being the largest manufacturer of vaccines in the world, India was worse off than its South Asian neighbours.

"The biggest super spreader event in the world was the Kumbha mela," Rao told reporters at the state Congress headquarters in Panaji.

"People throughout the country lost their lives and livelihood, they are suffering. Why? Because the central government did not bother to address the situation. It did not bother to purchase the vaccines. It did not bother to warn the people that the second wave of Covid has already started, let us be careful," Rao said.

"Instead of that, he was doing election rallies, even though he knew that the second wave had come. Never in the history of Indian politics, has a PM behaved so irresponsibly... And he does not care. He does not bother," Rao also said.

"The PM was busy congratulating himself. Why is the situation not the same in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, our own neighbours," the AICC official asked.

But no one is talking about that. Last year they where saying about tablighi jamat but now nothing. If tablighi people did they might have spoken about it. This is their mistake right no action is taken.

Indeed Kumbh Mela celebration could have been conducted with limited participation and brainless people visiting also should have thought through the implications. However, just blaming only Kumbh mela is ridiculous because before even the beginning of mela, Maharashtra, Kerala and other southern states cases were on the rise. Also from southern states very limited people participate in Kumbh mela compare to northern states, hence one can't spread this false narrative for the rise in Corona cases. Religious gatherings started by all religions after the first wave and both Govt. and people were so careless thinking they defeated this pandemic Both Governments and people equally responsible for the 2nd wave of Corona and no wonder 3rd wave is evident unless everyone understand their responsibilities and act. Another disaster is Vaccine lobby of India which has dramatically changed India's leadership position from top to bottom in a span of few weeks after SII chairman ran away to UK and political parties started playing dirty politics in spreading rumours about made in India Vaccines.

Kmbhha Mela was govt sponsored, self indulgent event. PM should have been the role model and exhibited better sense to contain and practice covid guidelines which his own govt designed and implemented instead he violated only to grab power at any cost even to the cost of people’s lives. On top of that he exported covid vaccines and gave Indians Remdesivir which is not meant for covid. Then came worst of all cheap stunts to put his and his chelas photos on vaccines. This is not the characteristics of a responsible and good governance administration. It’s a Goonda Raj administration.

I only wish that you won't be branded a traitor, Deshdrohi. Well, how can we expect Modi to restrain an event like Kumbg Mela ?? The moment he does it, 50% of his fan-followers will stop supporting him. Modi will do nothing that will disappoint his followers. Even at the cost of India suffering a second wave.
