“Last week vaccination was given to 16,429 people. Based on the stats of daily figures of vaccination campaigns in the districts, names of top three are published,” said nodal officer Dr Rajesh.

Dr Rajesh further said, “People were scared to take vaccination though it was available in abundance before the onset of the second wave. Now the citizens are aware of the importance of vaccination. So the demand has shot up. People also know that they have to register online compulsorily in order to get the Covid vaccination. So they visit the vaccination centres only after they are scheduled. So the unnecessary rush that was seen in the vaccination centres is also reduced.

“Vaccination is supplied to all taluk health centres depending upon the demand. There are 90 vaccination centres in the district in total. In addition, Covid vaccination is available in KMC, K S Hegde and Kanachur private hospitals also.”

Deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V said, “The district administration had formed a programme by administering vaccination to 75% people who have registered online and 25% people above the age of 70 in offline. This has got a good response from the public. We have received demand for rural areas also to provide facilities for online registration. But we have not implemented the same as people of villages might get affected if the urban citizens register themselves on rural portals.

“So far for people above the age of 70 vaccination was provided offline. Now 85% of this age group is covered. So the age limit is reduced to 60 now. All citizens who have attained the age of 60 and above can take the vaccination in offline mode,” he said.
