Kundapur: Don Bosco Secondary School Trasi inaugurated

Mangaluru, Jun 18: On the threshold of celebrating the decennial year of its inception, Don Bosco School formally inaugurated its senior secondary school namely XI standard Science and Commerce classes on June 16 on the virtual platform which was streamed live on YouTube.

Fr Felix Fernandes sdb, the provincial of the Panjim – Konkan province of the Salesians of Don Bosco presided over the programme. Professor Mathew C Ninan, director of Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar was the chief guest.

The inauguration ceremony was set into motion with Fr Felix Fernandes along with the vice provincial Fr Clive Telles lighting the lamp at the provincial house in Goa. This was followed by the rector of the school Fr Leo Pereira, Fr Maxim D’Souza, the principal and Fr Merwin Fernandes, the vice-principal lighting the lamp at the school. The inaugural ceremony was brought to a close with the faculty members and the students lighting the lamp from their respective homes.

Professor Mathew C Ninan in his address congratulating the management for taking this bold initiative said, “Don Bosco is a brand name which signifies the high quality of education. It is surely a great blessing to the people in and around Trasi that such an international level institution has come to a small village.” Lauding the students and parents for choosing the CBSE school he said, “I wish to congratulate the students and parents who have made this very significant decision to join a CBSE School for the plus 2 stage because CBSE makes a difference. Classes 11 and 12 of CBSE are going to be very significant milestones for students because they are way above all other streams like PUC. The outcome of this sensible decision will be realized within a span of 10 years.”

Professor Ninan also placed before the students the examples of high achievers of Little Rock Indian School who reached IITs, IIMs, AIMS, universities of Stanford and Cambridge etc. He particularly cited the examples of Dr Areena Rochelle D’Souza - the first female spinal surgeon in India, Dr Ganesh Kumar Ammannaya – who developed a unique ‘Ammannaya Technique’ in heart surgery, Krishna Ramkumar – a Forbes awardee who founded Avanti, an organization that trains slum children for IIT and IIM exams, Sheryl Jyothi Cornelio – Forbes awardee as the trusted caregiver for her services as head of the nursing department during the pandemic. He also encouraged the students to develop a happy mindset if they wished to be useful and productive in society and this could be achieved by being creative, useful and engage in good relationships with God, parents, siblings, classmates and teachers. This will automatically lead one to a growth mindset that is growing in stature which includes intellectual, psychological and emotional growth.

In his presidential remarks, Fr Felix Fernandes said, “Today is a red-letter day in the life of Don Bosco School, Trasi and the inauguration of the Senior Secondary symbolizes a mighty step forward in the field of education of the young.” He placed on record his gratitude to Palanivelu, Udupi city coordinator of CBSE schools, Professor Mathew C Ninan, Fr Vincent Crasta, secretary of Catholic Education Society Udupi for their kind help during the process of seeking permission. He also thanked the parents and students for placing their trust in Don Bosco School and the teachers for coming forward to teach them. Citing that Don Bosco was the greatest educationist of the 20th century he said, “Don Bosco firmly believed that if we want to have a good society, we must concentrate all our forces on value-based education of the young and focus on winning over the confidence of the young through genuine love.”

Fr Maxim D’Souza in his vote of thanks remembered all those who have pioneered the institution and helped in the process of acquiring affiliation to senior secondary.
