Panaji, Jun 14: Margao town police on Saturday arrested two persons after they allegedly assaulted a resident of Telaulim, Navelim, with deadly weapons after waylaying him at Shirvodem, Margao, late Friday evening.

According to the police sources, Cenvi Pires while returning home on his two-wheeler saw the road near the Quba masjid at Shirvodem blocked as a car was wrongfully parked. An altercation broke out when Pires asked the two occupants of the car to move aside. The argument got heated and the accused said to have removed a scythe and an iron rod from their car and assaulted Pires. He sustained severe injuries on his head and legs and was later taken to Hospicio, Margao.

Ayub Sayed, a resident of Fakirband, Margao, and Anil Kumar, a resident of Colconda, Margao, and a native of Chattisgarh were arrested by the police. They have been remanded in seven-day police custody. They have been booked under IPC sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 326 (assault by dangerous weapons), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506-ii (criminal intimidation).
