Mangaluru, Jun 9: Srinivas University, here, is a private state university in Karnataka established in 2013 by Karnataka State Act.

Srinivas University is the flagship of 18 Srinivas Group of Institutions started by A Shama Rao Foundation, in the city, a private charitable trust founded in 1988 by an eminent senior chartered accountant Dr A Raghavendra Rao.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes under 10 faculties/colleges with about 150 courses. It has established networking with many industries, universities and education service providers to substantially improve the quality and weightage of the courses and degrees, respectively.

Srinivas University offers various types of research programmes including PhD, research-based postdoctoral fellow programme, project-based postdoctoral fellow programme, DSc, DLitt, visiting scientist and visiting professor programmes.

Presently, around 400 students are pursuing PhD in various fields and around 50 students are pursuing post-doctoral fellow programmes. Srinivas University has adopted a policy of open access research publications in order to make its research results completely visible to the global research community at no cost. Their university research scholars and faculty members published around 1,100 scholarly papers in research journals during the last 5 years which is considered the largest contribution from a small university.

To create a research ecosystem, Srinivas University is conducting 20 national and four international conferences every year since its inception. The university is conducting webinars, workshops for research scholars continuously to support its large research scholars’ fleet. It has adopted a unique policy of appointing dedicated senior research professors for guiding research scholars around the clock and currently, about 60 research guides are serving in the university to guide the PhD scholars.

The department of Scientific and Industrial Research, of the Government of India has given recognition for intensifying industrial research to Srinivas University and is the only university that has received this status in Karnataka among state private universities. To support researchers for speedy publications of their research results, Srinivas University has started its own publication unit with four international journals, which are currently registered Sherpa/Romeo of the UK for Journal Deposit Policy and indexed in openAIR. Srinivas University has been recognized as one of the best universities in India by CEO Insights, an education, and business analysis magazine during 2018. Dr P S Aithal, the vice-chancellor of the university has established the first rank among the top 12,000 business research authors in the number of open access publications since 2018 by Elsevier’s SSRN research network and also, he is within 1% of top authors on SSRN by total new downloads and citations during the last year.

With the continued focus on research and innovation, Srinivas University has introduced many innovative and accountable research policies for accelerated contribution to research-based Intellectual Property Right of the Country, which include compulsory patent filing for undergraduate and postgraduate students of professional courses at the end of six months research-oriented internship in the final year, compulsory copyright for PhD coursework and research publications, publications and patents-based faculty incentives etc.

The university has continuously engaged its research scholars and faculty members during the Corona lock-down period by means of organizing many online workshops, webinars, conferences, etc to utilize their valuable time on developing research skills with a goal of early adoption of the objective of National Education Policy 2020 by converting all UG and PG programmes as research-intensive programmes to create innovators to the future industries in society.
