Mangaluru: World Environment Day, Vanamahotsav celebrated at Expert Campus

Mangaluru, Jun 5: Expert PU College, Valachil campus observed World Environment Day to express global solidarity on saving our environment and the planet for posterity.

Vanamahotsav-2021 was also celebrated to mark the occasion in the presence of Sridhar, forest range officer of Mangaluru and other officials from the department.

Professor Narendra L Nayak, chairman of Expert Group of Institutions and Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson of Expert Group of Institutions planted the saplings. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Nayak opined that the pandemic that the world has been dealing with now has shown how disastrous the consequences of ecosystem loss can be. We have created ideal conditions for pathogens like coronavirus to spread and we can counter the climate change and collapse of biodiversity only with healthy ecosystems.

Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak stressed on the need for keeping the campus green and how the present pandemic situation has made it a necessity. She appreciated the cooperation and contributions of Sridhar in achieving this Expert campus.

Sridhar conveyed his wishes on the occasion and lauded the efforts of the management for creating a healthy and green campus; he also assured his cooperation for the cause in the days to come.

The present lockdown did not cause any impediments to the students of the college to participate in the vanamahotsav celebrations and they made it a greater event by planting saplings in their gardens at home and shared videos of the same.

Ustad Rafique Khan, trustee; Ankush N Nayak, director of Information Technology, Expert Group of Institutions; Raghavendra Shenoy, vice-principal; Gurudath N, HOD of Hindi and Rajesh, unit manager of Spices and Chefs were present on the occasion.
