PM 'individualised' everything to become 'Vaccine Guru': Congress

New Delhi, May 16 (IANS): Attacking the Modi government's handling of the Covid pandemic, the Congress on Sunday also faulted its vaccine policy, saying the muddle arose because the "Prime Minister wanted to become the vaccine guru".

Addressing a virtual press conference, Congress spokesman Pawan Khera said: "The Government of India did not manage the crisis as well. When it came to negotiation with vaccine manufacturers, when it came to putting in place a vaccine policy, everything was centralised. Actually, it was not even centralised, it was individualised, because someone wanted to be a 'Vaccine Guru'. Narendra Modi wanted to be known as a 'Vaccine Guru'."

He said that India was not short of oxygen but the government delayed setting up of 162 onsite oxygen plants across 14 states by 8 months and "when the crisis hits hard, the state governments were blamed".

Citing the eight-phase West Bengal Assembly elections, the "super-spreader rallies" and the Kumbh Mela, Khera said that questions were being asked on the government's decisions. "You can't have centralised decision-making and decentralised responsibility, both have to be decentralised, both have to be in tune with each other."

"Today, because of you, different states are negotiating with the same companies, vaccine manufacturers for their people. They will all get different prices... Why? Who will be answer these questions too?" he asked.

Khera alleged that when the nation was getting overwhelmed by the pandemic, one man with his government "still busy trying to save a fake image that he has built of himself. His fake image cannot be more important than my real life, than the real lives of my family members, my friends, my loved ones...."

Why do bhakts keep talking this Congress-Congress nonsense ? The last 7 years of your lives have been spent on ridiculing and kicking the Congress out. You wanted to avenge some ill-conceived notion by the BJP that Congress were trying to reduce the status of Hindus in India. But you forgot that you had also voted Modi for development. I am a Hindu too. So tell me, isn't it true that during Modi's rule when unemployment and inflation have increased - haven't Hindus been affected as well ? Due to Modi's mismanagement of demonetization, GST, Aadhaar benefits, economy, bank privatization - everyone has suffered and mostly Hindus. Modi's incompetence of handling the Covid situation right from January 2020 has caused deaths in many Hindu family and it's depressing to see & hear news of bodies being dumped in rivers instead of being cremated with proper funeral rites. I am not for toppling the BJP government as they have been democratically elected. Either BJP installs new PM, HM &FM candidates (possibly Gadkari & Piyush Goyal) or supports the Opposition in forming a minority government to better handle this crisis period.

CONgress sometimes needs to understand pulse of people. Vaccine is sensitive issue now, they should aid people rather than calling press conferences and abusing Modi. This will not get them anywhere. Already West Bengal party is ZERO, Kerala and Assam, CONgress should've come into power, but they lost badly.

Anata, Even you aren't leaving behind politics while a very pathetic state of the pandemic is prevailing in our own state. Who cares about election results when we are struggling to take a breath due to lack of oxygen ?? Let Modi accept his failure and step down. This Bolbachchan PM is not doing any good to the poor people of the nation.

February 2020 was the time N Modi was entertaining Doland Trump in Delhi and Gujarat instead of sealing international flights and building medical supllies. The arrogance of this one man to host an American President to give BJP a boost in poll numbers, cost India dearly today. The departed souls and the curses from the family members will haunt you for eternity and no visits to pilgrimage sites will help in this case.

Beig a Gujju our P.M acts like a businessman and nothing else. In the beginning he acts like a savior of all Indians and in the middle he leaves it the states to deal with the situation. If that is the case allow the state Governments to deal with the situation right from the beginning. Why he has to poke his nose if he can not continue with same....????? I feel we all are paying from our nose to deal with such situation because of our P.Ms business mind. He is a crook for sure.

The Prime Minister has completely failed to provide a sense of safety, direction or leadership during this massive human crisis we are facing. The lack of planning and preparation between the first and the second wave is the worst act of negligence of an incompetent government. Agree with the Congress Spokesperson. Modi wanted himself to be potrayed as the Vaccine Guru and has made a Mess of the Vaccine distribution for the states.
