Mangaluru: Assistant commissioner clears reopening of beedi industries

Mangaluru, May 14: The assistant commissioner in the department of labour said that the beedi industries in the twin-districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada have been permitted to be reopened.

The twin districts have a total of over four lac beedi workers, and the lockdown has created a crisis in their lives. The issue was discussed by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner and the police commissioner. He has ordered that the beedi industries can be opened, duly ensuring that the guidelines issued by the state government and the two district administrations are not compromised, and by following all the rules.

A meeting of beedi producers from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts had been convened where they were told that they can reopen the industries.
