Panaji: Lawyers write to CM, urge lockdown

Panaji, May 6: In view of the pandemic and rapid surge in Covid cases, a group of advocates from Bardez at Mapusa have written to the chief minister as well as chief secretary to impose a strict lockdown in the state and to implement immediate relief measurers under the Disaster Management Act.

The letter was signed by twelve advocates which stated that it is shameful that Goa's rate of infection is the highest in the country and the death rate is soaring at 50 persons per day for the population of just 15 lakh.

"We are perturbed over the deaths. Yet it transpires that the state government is not in favour of a complete lockdown and instead preferring economic activity over the lives of people," the letter stated.

Further, the lawyers urged the chief minister for a complete lockdown for the next 10-15 days to protect people's lives.
