Karwar: Monitoring committee formed to oversee Gokarna temple

Karwar, May 5: In tune with the interim order passed by the Supreme Court to manage all the affairs of Gokarna Lord Mahabaleshwara temple, the apex court on Tuesday, issued an order forming a monitoring committee headed by Supreme Court retired judge, Justice B N Srikrishna.

The committee will take over possession of Lord Mahabaleshwara temple and other family deities of the temple, along with the fixed and movable assets of the respective deities, from Hosanagar based Ramachandrapur Math immediately. The committee will henceforth manage the temple as per the Supreme Court interim order. The apex court has asked Ramachandrapur Math to hand over the said temple which has an illustrious history supported by epics, to the newly formed committee.
