Panaji: Man drowns in Khandepar river

Panaji, Apr 17: A 35-year-old youth from Soliye-Honda in Sattari taluk drowned in the Khandepar River at Codar-Dharbandora.

Ambresh Anant Solyekar with two other friends had gone on a picnic. He along with one of his friends went for a swim in a bandhara over the river at Codar. Solyekar began to struggle to stay afloat after he swam out a little further into the bandhara.

Seeing Solyekar drowning, his friend raised an alarm and along with some other picnickers launched a search operation. They had to resort to calling the police and emergency service. His body was recovered by late afternoon. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Ponda police station.
