Udupi Municipal Council holds general meeting - Discuss various issues

Udupi, April 12: The general meeting of the Udupi Municipal Council was held here on Monday. Kinnimulki ward councillor Amrutha Krishnamurthi Acharya, opposition leader, Ramesh Kanchan and Ajjarkad councillor pointed out the failure in providing suitable facilities to candidates who come for army recruitment.

MLA Raghupathi Bhat said that the incident was unexpected. "The administration had erected pandals with the help of local organizations and provided food once the plight of the candidates was known. This has put a bad light on the council. We should make sure to avoid such lapses in the future," he said.

Perampalli ward councillor, Celine Karkada took Varahi project engineers to task for not providing water connection on time. She said that women in the area have staged a protest as the water pipes are broken at several places due to the road widening process.

The MLA called the concerned and said that the work should be planned well in advance to prevent inconvenience to people.

Ramesh Kanchan speaking to president Sumitra Kanchan stated that there is a scarcity of officials and health officers in the council and requested her to pay heed to the matter.

There are irregularities at Beedinagudde Maidan and Mannapalla. The DC is the president of the development committee. There is no maintenance work done, said Manipal ward’s Kalpana Sudhama. The MLA asked the councillor to request the DC to transfer its maintenance to the municipal council.  

Yogish Salian requested for reduction in rates of billboards used for religious programmes.

Over 75 per cent of the work of the housing complex at Saralabettu is completed and will be handed over to the beneficiaries in November, informed the MLA.

Sunder J Kalmadi said that there is no provision to dispose of waste from the abattoir in Adi Udupi and the animal waste flows into the drains emanating a foul stink. He urged the council to take immediate action in this matter.

Council commissioner, Uday Kumar Shetty and vice president, Laxmi Manjunath Salian were present.
