Udupi, Apr 12: Priests and nuns were honored on behalf of their hometown at Sastan church on the eve of the church centenary celebrations.

Fr Baptist Menezes, director of Udupi diocese minor seminary who was the chief celebrant of the mass said that the vocation to be a priest or a nun is a blessing from God and it should be accepted with love.

Priests and nuns serving all over the world spread the message of peace given by Jesus. The new generation should make use of the opportunity, he said.

Priests and nuns who were born and brought up in Sastan parish and serving in various parts of the world and those who work in the parish were honoured after the mass.

Church parish priest Fr John Walter Mendonca, guest priests Fr John Louis, Fr Stevan D’Souza, parish pastoral council secretary Louis D’ Souza, Janet Banz and others were present.

The celebrations were confined only to religious observance due to corona regulations. A thanksgiving mass will be held under the leadership of Udupi bishop Dr Isaac Lobo and Mangaluru diocese Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha on April 14.
