Kundapur, Apr 11: "Now-a-days, restrictions are being imposed on all classes of the society. Because of coronavirus infection, fishermen have been facing hardships for the last one year. Tragically, they did not get the expected assistance from the government. I am sure that influential people's representatives from here will respond to their problems," said senior Congress leader and MP D K Suresh.

He was speaking to media persons at Gangolli after accompanying the fishermen from Udupi district to Bhatkal with fishermen in a boat to watch the fishing activities on Saturday April 10.

"The fishermen undertake adventurous activities and lacs of fishermen are leading a very difficult life. Because of rising oil prices, they are not able to lead a peaceful life. Coronavirus infection on one hand and not getting good catches which could have fetched them good prices, is also bothering them. Time will tell as to who will compel the government to come to the assistance of the fishermen," he said. He promised to raise the topic of fishermen's problems in the Lok Sabha if he gets an opportunity.

Suresh felt that only one percent of the people move about at night, and restricting their movement is not justified. He stressed that restrictions should be placed on the 99 percent of people who are engaged in activities during the day. He said he fails to understand how the government plans to control the pandemic by allowing people to move about freely during the day and restricting them at night. He said that the government should have followed the advice of experts in commercial and other activities to control the disease.

"People are waiting to reveal how the BJP leaders are misusing electronic voting machines. People are afraid of facing cases if they tell the truth. We hope to see a change in the atmosphere after two years," he said. He also predicted victory for the Congress candidates in the bypolls in three constituencies in the state.

Kundapur taluk Billawa Sangha president, Ashok Poojary Beejady, Suresh Chatrabettu, Shankar Poojary Beejady, Anil and Sunil were present.
