Kundapur: Effluents disposal at students hostel arranged, long pending problem addressed

Kundpaur, Apr 11: Chairman of Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, K Jayaprakash Hegde, stated that earlier, it was observed that the backward classes boys hostel here was facing the grave problem of not having an efficient underground drainage system. He said that instructions were issued to take suitable action, and now steps have been taken to collect the effluents within the compound of the hostel and to dispose of them. He said that the problem will end within a short period.

He was speaking to media persons after visiting the D Devaraj Urs Post-Metric Boys Student Hostel on Saturday, April 10 and inspecting the arrangements there.

He instructed the officials to repair the windows and doors of the hostel and asked them to bring to his notice if there is a shortage of grant. He asked them to contact donors if there is a shortage of beds for the students. "I have been visiting student hostels at different places in the state, study the issues if any, and addressing the problems. The students of these hostels should not be deprived of basic amenities, duly adding that he will be instructing the officials suitably."

He revealed that the commission has been studying from all the angles the demand for reservations received from various communities in the state. "We will conduct a detailed study about the demands already received and send a report to the government. I will bring to the notice of the department concerned about the non-release of grants for digging the borewells under the 'Ganga Kalyana' scheme, he stated.

He accepted petitions from the people at the travellers' bungalow and promised to verify them and do the needful.

Former municipal vice president, Rajesh Kaveri, councillor, G K Girish, taluk backward classes welfare officer, Narasimha Poojary, warden of the hostel, Shekhar, and warden of girl students hostel, Ashalata, were present.
