Mangaluru, Apr 10: "Byaris are growing in politics. It is a welcome move that Byari women are elected as president and vice president of local bodies. We have an aim for the development of the Byari community. We need a Rs 180 crore grant. But there is a shortfall. Minority welfare corporation and departments are there. A progress assessment meeting of minorities will be done and a suitable scheme for the development of minorities will be sketched," said Mohammed Nazeer, secretary of the minority welfare department.

Nazeer was speaking at a felicitation programme for Byari presidents and vice presidents of local bodies as well as achievers of Byari community. The programme was organised under the aegis of All India Byari Parishad at Hotel Royal Brigade, Bavutagudda in the city.

Language unites people. At the border area of Kerala, Byaris mix Malayalam language while speaking. Making mistakes is natural. But we should not do wrong just because someone else does. Our life should not cross the boundary of religion."
