Udupi: Hotel owner ends life, case filed

Udupi, Apr 9: A hotel owner reportedly ended his life.

Neelappa Ramanna Godi(30), the deceased younger brother of Mantappa Ramanna Godi (41), resident of Moodubettu, Kodavoor, here, lived in a room of the house belonging to his elder brother. He had been running a hotel in Udupi since the last year.

Mantappa Ramanna Godi had dropped his younger brother to the Udupi bus stand by his bike at 8.30 am on April 6. Neelappa had not returned home since. The mother of Mantappa Ramanna Godi said that Neelappa had come home and returned when Mantappa Ramanna Godi was not at home.

Mantappa Ramanna Godi received information that the body of a dead man was found hanging near Malpe Padukere beach on April 8. Mantappa Ramanna Godi went to the spot at 5.40 pm and found the dead body of his younger brother hanging by a thin rope from the branch of a country tree in the midst of coconut plantations near Shantinagar beach.

Mantappa Ramanna Godi lodged a police complaint assuming that his brother had died by suicide between 8.30 am on April 6 and 5.40 pm on April 8 because of the frustration of the loan borrowed by him or for some other reason.

A police case under UDR registration No 19/2021 section 174 CRPC is registered at Malpe police station in this connection.
