Mangaluru, Apr 7: It has come to light in the CAG report that during his tenure as president of Baikampady Mohiuddin Juma Masjid, NB Aboobacker has misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 49 lac and used the same for his personal use.

Aboobacker had put a petition in the high court saying that he will return half the amount which he has used for his personal use. However, as he was unable to pay back the promised amount, the high court has given the order to carry on with the procedure to recover the misappropriated funds from Aboobacker.

According to details available, Aboobacker had built Adka community hall, which is aligned to Baikampady Juma Masjid, when he was the president of a minority development corporation in 2010. The community center was inaugurated in December 2010 with Rs 50 lac grant from Wakf, Rs 50 lac loan from Wakf and donation of Rs 35 lac from community members.

PWD engineer had estimated the cost of community center as Rs 1.13 crore. Aboobacker had objected this estimate and had requested for re assessment. During the second valuation, an engineer of PWD, who succumbed to the pressure of Aboobacker's influence put the value at Rs 2.12 crore. When the Wakf Board came to know that the valuation is fraud, it got the inquiry done through CAG.

Aboobacker was the president of the Jamaat from 2004 to 2013 December. He did not agree to hold election and had put a writ application in high court to continue as the president of the Jamaat. But the high court ordered to hold election. The opposition party consisting of 11 members under the presidentship of B A Abdul Narsi emerged victorious in the election.

The new Jamaat leaders gave a written complaint that fraud has taken place in the building of the community center. CAG gave a report that Rs 49 lac scam has indeed occurred in the project. Wakf board sent several notices. As Aboobacker could not give satisfactory explanation, Wakf board ordered the DC to confiscate the personal property of Aboobacker in July 2019. Aboobacker approached the high court saying that the valuation of his house that is served notice for auction is not correct. The high court granted him interim stay on the auction of his house. But the point to be noted that Aboobacker did not defend the fact that he did not use the public money for personal use.

Though Aboobacker secured interim stay in one case he could not get the stay order for another case of misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 21.43 lac. On January 7, 2021 notice is served to confiscate his property. The revenue inspector has sent a notice to the tahsildar for the confiscation. The period of the notice is also over on March 27. The property of Aboobacker might be auctioned at any time.

BJP leader Anwar Manippadi was the one who brought all the scams related to Wakf to the state. However, as its own party members are involved in scams the party is embarrassed. So prominent BJP leaders have maintained a distance from Aboobacker.

Aboobacker is continuously appealing to high court through writ petitions not to call general body meeting of Jamaat instead an administrative officer should be nominated. However, none of these writ petitions have received stay order so far. Now the distraught Aboobacker, who is on the verge of losing his house is trying his best not to hold the general body meeting.

Aboobacker had credited Rs 26.73 lac rupees to his account in the names of Usman (rowdy sheeter) and Rafique.
