Kundapur: 72 baby turtles come out of eggshells at temporary hatchery

Kundapur, Apr 7: Over 72 baby turtles came out of eggshells at the temporary hatchery prepared near Lighthouse, Kodi seashore here and joined the Arabian Sea on the night of Tuesday, April 5.

The forest department had rescued the turtle eggs found at Kodi seashore between January 22 and March 3 activists and locals' help. They had prepared 11 hatcheries for them at the seashore which were guarded relentlessly day and night.

More than 370 baby turtles have come out of these eggshells and joined the sea. State Rapid Action Force head PCCF, Sanjay Mohan, forest subdivision DFO, Ashish Reddy, forest officer, Prabhakar Kulal and Hasta Reddy were present when the baby turtles hatched and joined the sea.

The members of the sea turtle rescue team visited Sanjay Mohan, senior officer of the forest department at the Kundapur forest guest house and requested him to open a sea turtle conservation centre to protect the rare Olive Ridley sea turtle eggs which are on the verge of extinction.

FSL India Clean Kundapur, Project Reef Watch organization and Empree R Z Workers organization’s Nagaraj Shetty, Dinesh Saranga, Venkatesh, Lakshman Poojary, Sachin Poojary, Raghu Bangera, Bharath Kharvi and Sampath Uday Kharvi were present.

    Great work done to save the nature and rare animals.Previously people were waiting to collect these eggs even wild animals to catch baby turtels on their way to sea.
