Kasargod, Apr 7: In the polling that was held for the legislative assembly, the poll percentage recorded in the district is 74.91%. This is less than earlier.

In the Manjeshwar legislative constituency which is expected to have fierce contest, 76.81% polling is recorded. This is the highest percentage of polling recorded so far. However, in the Kasargod legislative constituency six percent less polling has taken place in comparison to the polling of 2016 legislative assembly elections.

In the Kasargod constituency 70.87% polling has taken place. The reduction of poll percentage has given room for intense discussion among the workers of boty UDF and BJP, which have a straight contest here.

In Uduma and Kanhangad, the poll percentage is 75.56 and 74.36 respectively. This is two to three percent less compared to 2016 election. In the Trikaripura legislative constituency where the poll percentage was more than 80% in 2016, only 76.77% polling is held.

Out of the 10,58,337 voters in the district, 7,92,872 people exercised their franchise. 3,77,371 men and 4,15,499 women cast their votes. In Manjeshwar out of 2,21,682 votes, 1,79,289 people cast their votes. In Kasargod out of 2,01,812 voters, 1,43, 041 exercised their franchise. IN Uduma out of 2,14,209 voters, 1,61,859 cast their votes. In Kanhangad out of 2,18,385 voters, 1,62,398 cast their votes. In Trikaripura out of total 2,02,249 voters, 1,55,285 people cast their votes.

In the constituency of Manjeshwar there is triangular contest among UDF, BJP and LDF. As the percentage of polling is increased this time around, respective political parties are curious to know the outcome. It is said that the number of votes LDF garners in this constituency will decide the victory or loss of UDF or BJP. In 2016, BJP got defeated by a slender margin of 89 votes.
