Udupi, Apr 7: "Terrorism and Naxalism are the curses that have stuck this nation. Is it right for people, who complain that the country is not okay and system is not right, to pick up weapons in order to put the system in place?" questioned orator Rajendra Bhat.

Bhat delivered keynote address at the Homage programme that was held in honour of soldiers who laid down their life in the recent Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh, organized by ICYM Udyavar golden jubilee committee.

Rajendra Bhat further said, "Mothers or wives of martyred soldiers to not allow the tears to drop from their eyes while receiving highest martyr awards like Paramveer chakra. They are determined not to shed tears in front of the mortal remains of their son or husband. Every soldier wishes to sacrifice his life for the country. In the incident that occurred at Chhattisgarh Naxals had all kind of ultra-modern weapons. How come 400 Naxalites killed 22 soldiers in spite of the soldiers making all preparations? How come the Naxalites got the weapons that were with our soldiers?"

Homage was paid to the martyred soldiers by lighting the lamp and offering floral tributes.

Parish priest of St Francis church did the introductory speech and said, "The soldiers of our nation are sacrificing their today for our tomorrow. Our soldiers are our family. They are working day and night to protect us."

Steven Colaco, convenor of ICYM Udyavar golden jubilee committee, Michael D'Souza, president, Melwin Noronha, vice president of church pastoral council and others were present.
