Mangaluru, Apr 6: A registered post-campaign to recognise Tulu as an official language in memory of the freedom struggle of Tulu land was held jointly by Times of Kudla and Jai Tulunad at Mangaluru’s Surya Hotel auditorium on April 5.

Dr Akash Raj Jain of the clan of Aluva Arasas who inaugurated the programme after lighting the lamp said that there is a provision for status and respect for other languages along with Hindi that reflects on India’s literature and culture under article 344(1) and 351. “Tulu, the language of Tulu land is deprived of it. The registered post-campaign to draw the attention of the centre and the state government towards the Tulu language is inevitable.”

Tulu film actor, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor set the registered post-campaign in motion, signing on the letter requesting to include Tulu language under chapter eight and announce it as the official language of the state. “The heart of Tuluvas is big. We can see the love of all groups of people towards Tulu who supported Tulu artistes by watching their movies when the economic condition had a bit of dust due to Covid lockdown. The language which is being loved in this manner should be included in the eighth chapter. It is our unanimous demand,” he said.

Tulu scholar, president of Udupi Tulu Chavadi Koota Kudi Vasanth Shetty said that Tulu people are soft like local jackfruit. “Let us all join our voice for the spirit of Tulu,” he said.

Veteran journalist Dr Shekar Ajekar, proprietor of Surya Hotel, Taranath Shetty, president of Srasti Kalabhoomi Bengaluru Manjunath Adapa, Tuluvere Ayano Koota president Dr Rajesh Alva, Tulu cinema producer Ravi Boloor, Jai Tulunad organization president Sudarshan Surathkal, Times of Kudla general manager Yashoda Keshav, manager Krishan Thimmayya, co-editor Yashodhar Kotian, Jai Tulunad organization’s Kiran Tuluva and other elite people were on the dais.
