Udupi, Apr 5: There is an alarming rise of Covid-19 cases in the neighbouring states of Kerala and Maharashtra. The Covid cases are being reported in mass gatherings. The second wave is here and therefore, preventive measures in the district should be intensified and Covid-19 tests must be conducted in larger numbers.

Some random tests among few specified groups will be conducted on priority. The deputy commissioner has exercised his powers and has given the following directions under Disaster Management Act 2005 and Covid Regulation 2020.

“All the malls in the district, shopping complexes, people in textile shops, electronic component stores, Zomato, Swiggy and such other food distributors, hotels and restaurants and cinema halls should contact taluk health officer in their limits in Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala and fix a date to undergo mandatory Covid-19 tests. They should compulsorily keep sanitisers at the entrance. People should wear masks, maintain social distance, wash their hands regularly with soap. They should also strictly observe the Covid-19 guidelines released by the centre and the state government.”

“Stringent action under Disaster Management Act 2005 will be taken in case of violations and the licenses of the organizations will be suspended till the Covid-19 pandemic ends,” stated the deputy commissioner.
