Mangaluru, Apr 2: More than 17 she buffaloes which were either resting on the railway tracks or passing by, were killed after a train crushed them during late night hours on Wednesday March 31. Four were found in critical condition and oscillating between life and death. A few calves were among those killed.

People who saw the crushed parts of the she buffaloes scattered on either side of the railway tracks were moved to tears.

After the incident came to their notice, railway police, Surathkal police personnel and leaders of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagran Vedike and others visited the spot. The railway police helped in performing the funeral of the carcasses. In the presence of Hindu leaders, the deceased buffaloes were buried.

Large crowds of buffaloes, cows and she buffaloes driven to streets can be seen at Kulai, Tannirbhavi, Panambur etc.
