Mangaluru: District experiences hailstorm - Traffic snarls, power outages

Manglauru, Mar 25: Even as rising heat in the twin-districts has been making the people to sweat it out, rain and strong wind including hailstorms at a few places occured in the evening of Wednesday, March 24.

Hailstorms were reported from several places in Puttur and Sullia taluks. In some places even lightning was experienced. Subrahmanya and surrounding places like Panja, Yenekal, Bilinele and Kadaba received good rainfall. Kumbra, Tingaladi, Moodambail, Uppinankgady, Koila etc in Puttur taluk experienced lightning and rain. A few places in Beltangady taluk got light rainfall. After a tree fell across Sullia - Subrahmanya road, vehicular traffic was hit. In some places, it rained even at night.

The rain brought down temperature in those places. Power supply got severed due to rain at various places. The city experienced sweltering heat. The meteorological department officials say that the coast may experience rainfall in the evening for two days. The untimely rain also soaked areca nut laid out in the courtyards for drying, giving anxious moments to farmers.

Hebri and some places in Udupi district received hailstorms. Many places in this district got rain with thunder on Wednseday evening.

A few places in Kasargod district like Badiadka and Yetadka got heavy rainfall.
