Udupi: Adani Foundation distributes scholarships to 700 students worth Rs 20 lac

Udupi, Mar 22: UPCL, owned by Adani Group, in association with its CSR wing Adani Foundation, on Monday distributed scholarships worth Rs 20 lac to the meritorious students residing in its plant vicinity.

The scholarships were distributed to 700 students in the stage programme organized at an open auditorium Buntara Bhavan in Padubidri. The programme was kick-started by lighting a lamp by Lalalji R Menon, MLA, Kaup, who presided over the programme, M H Nagur, deputy director of Public Instructions, Udupi, was the chief guest, Kishore Alva, president and executive director of Adani UPCL, Shashikanth Padubidri, Zilla Panchayat member, U C Shekabba, vice-president of Kaup taluk panchayat, Neetha Gururaj, Dinesh Kotian, members of taluk panchayat, Yogini Shetty, president of Mudarangadi gram panchayat, Jyothi Ganesh, president of Bada gram panchayat, Gayatri Prabhu, president of Palimar gram panchayat, Ravi Shetty, president of Padubidri gram panchayat, Kasturi Praveen, president of Tenka gram panchayat, Pranesh, president of Hejamadi gram panchayat, Kushal Moolya, president of Inna gram panchayat, Shakuntala, vice president of Bada gram panchayat and Jayashree, vice-president of Tenka gram-panchayat.

Kishore Alva, delivering the foreword, informed that UPCL in association with Adani Foundation is executing CSR works in the field of education, health, rural infrastructure development, sports and cultural activities. Today under educational initiatives, Adani Foundation is distributing scholarships to 700 meritorious students, residing in and around the UPCL plant, worth total of Rs 20 lac. He said that the students who secured 85% and above in their academics during the academic year 2019-20 in SSLC, ITI, PUC, Diploma, Graduation, Post-Graduation, Engineering and Medical courses, identified through the respective gram panchayats, have been honoured with scholarships.

Alva further informed that honouring the meritorious students with scholarships motivates them to pursue higher studies and will impart thinking of competition among other students. He said that eradication of illiteracy and promoting education to the rural section of society is also one of the prime focuses of the Adani Foundation in the field of education.

Adani Foundation, under its focus area of education, is organizing ‘Udaan’ programme, has invited more than 15,000 students to the UPCL plant, is facilitating the students to gain knowledge in their academics and also the programme aims at inspiring the students to have a vision in their life, said Alva.

Lalalji R Mendon, MLA of Kaup, spoke. He said, "UPCL, after being taken over by Adani, is executing much development works in the district in the field of education, health and rural infrastructure and are commendable." He expressed happiness for the company’s gift to society in the field of education. He urged the students to take benefit of this scholarship and aim for higher education and work for the development of society. He said that Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts stand ahead in the field of education in the state and it is proud of districts wherein academics, students are proving by taking the first rank in SSLC and PUC. He appreciated that Udupi has created a landmark in the field of education, wherein students across the states and country are coming to pursue higher education. Adani’s scholarship to the students is a motivational aspect for the students to take up higher education, he added. Further, the MLA said that with the upgradation of Mangaluru’s International Airport and the on-going City Gas Distribution Pipeline project in Udupi by Adani, a way will be paved for the overall development of the twin districts.

Speaking on the occasion, N H Nagur, DDPI, Udupi, expressed happiness about the Adani Foundation’s initiative in providing scholarships for the benefit of students in rural areas. He said that identifying meritorious students and rewarding them by way of scholarships is kind of a sacred activity and one should be happy that Adani Foundation is delivering this activity. He applauded the Udupi district as it has become the model district in the field of education for other districts, as every year the first rank in SSLC and PUC is being grabbed by students of the Udupi district. He advised students to make use of the scholarships and aim at pursuing higher education. He also told that it is the responsibility of every parent to create a conducive atmosphere inside the home to motivate children for education.

Later zilla panchayat member Shashikant Padubidri spoke and welcomed Adani UPCL’s responsibilities under CSR for the development of society.

Ravi R Jere, DGM, Adani UPCL welcomed the guests, Girish Navada, AGM, delivered the vote of thanks. Deviprasad Bellibettu convened the programme.
