Karkala, Mar 22: A large scale theft happened at the residence of Sandeep Jain, resident of Ayyappa Nagar in Kukkundoor village near here during daytime on Sunday March 21.

The thieves broke open the front door and stole 55 sovereigns of gold ornaments approximately valued at Rs 15 lac, and Rs 60,000 in cash, it is said. The family had left to take part in the Bhoota Kola organized on behalf of the entire family at the residence of the head of thie family when this theft happened. This has given rise to the notion that those who know the family well were behind this act.

The thieves have left behind a key bunch with three keys which they used to execute the theft. It is thought that the key bunch would have slipped out of the hands of the thieves and fallen out when they were escaping.
