Bengaluru: Govt committed to protect environment, increase forest cover - CM

Bengaluru, Mar 21: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa said the state government was committed to protect and safeguard the environment while making all efforts to increase the forest cover.

He was addressing a function organized by the union environment and forests ministry and the Isha Foundation of Coimbatore headed by Sadguru Jaggi Vasudeva Rao to mark the World Environment Day celebration at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The chief minister complimented the efforts of the Isha Foundation of Coimbatore headed by Sadguru Jaggi Vasudeva Rao on completing one year of the Cauvery Calling campaign and felicitated farmers associated with the movement.

Yediyurappa said everybody had a duty to protect the environment and increase the green cover of not just the city but the state and the country.

Union environment and forests minister Prakash Javadekar, state health and family welfare minister Dr K Sudhakar and Sadguru Jaggi Vasudeva Rao participated in the function.
