Mangaluru, Mar 19: In a case in which a minor girl was raped resulting in her pregnancy, the additional district and sessions court here which also is the designated court for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed fine of Rs 55,000 on the accused.

Dinesh Shetty used to work as a coolie. He was in the habit of visiting the house of the girl often as he was well acquainted with her family. After promising to marry her, he reportedly had raped her on the night of December 23, 2018, and again on January 6, 2019.After two months, the family found during checks that the girl was pregnant. Upon questioning the girl, she revealed the name of the culprit.

On the basis of the girl's statement, a case under the POCSO Act was registered in Mulky police station. The accused was arrested. The DNA test too proved his guilt. Mulky police inspector, PM Siddaraju, held an investigation and filed charge sheet in the court.

Judge of the court, Savitri V Bhat, who examined 15 witnesses and 12 documents, found the accused guilty and awarded sentence as above. The prosecution was represented by special public prosecutor, C Venkataramana Swamy.

The man held guilty in this is already married and has two children.
