Mysuru: Facebook friend who went away with cash, gold ornaments arrested

Mysuru, Mar 18: A girl who created her Facebook profile with different names like Chinnu Gowda, Sanvi Sirigowda, Swathi etc and cheated her Facebook friends, has been arrested. The actual identity of the girl is Megha (25), a native of Ramanagara but now staying at Andaralli Bengaluru.

It is said that she used to cheat men after befriending them, by offering to marry them or provide employment etc. She then collected cash and ornaments wherever possible before going missing.

Swathi had created fake Facebook profile in the name of Chinnu Gowda and sent friend request to Ravi from Vijayanagara Mysuru. After the request was accepted, they shared their mobile numbers. She sent photos of some other girl and said her actual name was Bindu Gowda. She said she wanted to marry him and that she was a resident of Vijayanagara. She claimed her father is ultra-rich and owns two petrol bunks and bars. She said she wanted to gift him a Fortuner car costing Rs 45 lac on his birthday but was short by Rs 1.5 lac. She said her friend, Shivu, would collect Rs 1.5 lac from him. Ravi obliged.

After observing his mother's photo, she said over phone that she liked her ornaments and that she wanted to get similar ones done. She collected an 85 gram golden necklace from Ravi's mother. Then she switched off her mobile phone.

The mother-son duo filed police complaint. The police who investigated, succeeded in arresting Megha. She had already cheated Yoganand from Mandya to the extent of Rs 15 lac and Srinivas from Bengaluru to the extent of Rs 9.7 lac, the police said.
