Kundapur: Gold scheme cheating case - Complaints expected to swell

Kundapur, Mar 17: With reference to the incident in which a jewellery store here had defrauded its customers to the tune of crores of rupees, many more complaints are expected to be registered through several police stations in the area.

People living within the limits of the town station here, rural station, Gangolli, Byndoor, Shankarnarayana, Udupi, Bhatkal, Thirthahalli and other police stations have been cheated through the gold scheme. Two have been so far arrested in this regard, and a case filed in the town police station here mentions 24 names.

It is said that owner of the gold jewellery firm, Mohammad Iftikar Jummi, had invested the money from the gold scheme in a business in Africa. Because of corona lockdown and other things, he faced losses there and is facing grave problems, it is learnt.

District superintendent of police, N Vishnuvardhan, said that investigation into the case will be led by Kundapur deputy superintendent of police, Srikanth, supported police sub-inspectors of different police stations.
