Nitish Ads Like NDA's India Shining Campaign: Congress

New Delhi, Jul 9 (IANS): The Congress Friday took a dig at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for newspaper advertisements highlighting his achievements, saying that he was using government money to promote the ruling coalition in the state.

"He is promoting his party and coalition using government money. This is an old habit of the NDA (National Democratic Alliance). They had launched a similar campaign in 2004 about feel good factor and India Shining," Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told IANS.

Ahmed said that development works in Bihar, for which Nitish Kumar is claiming credit, had been carried out by central government funds.

"It has nothing to do with Nitish Kumar's personal achievement of Nitish Kumar. Ninety percent of the funds for development works have been provided by the central government," he said.

The Congress spokesman alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government had discriminated with Bihar during its rule but the Manmohan Singh government had given the state more than its share.

The Bihar government Friday released advertisements in some national dailies carrying photographs of the chief minister and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi highlighting the work done in the last five years.

The state is slated to face assembly polls later this year.
