Karwar: Hillock caves in at Yellapur - Four workers buried alive

Karwar, Mar 9: In an incident which happened at Sampebail near Idagundi in Yellapur taluk on the evening of Monday March 8, four workers were buried alive after the hillock on which they were working caved in.

The deceased were Laxmi Gangaram Doyipude (32), Bhagi Gangu Yedage (23), Santosh Sonu Doyipude (18) and Malu Daklu Doyipude (19), all of whom belonged to Gaonthana in Hosalli near Kirwatti village.

The workers were erecting a mud wall around the garden of a farmer in Sampebail within the limits of Idagundi gram panchayat, when the hillock suddenly came down crashing on them. Three other workers who were at the spot had a providential escape.

The police who rushed to the spot after learning about the incident, extricated the bodies with the help ofo fire brigade and government ambulance staff. A case was registered in Yellapur police station.
