Kasargod, Mar 8: Madan Gowda, convener of Asia journalists' federation, opined that journalists should be committed to working with faithfulness in addition to preserving the professional values of journalism.

Madan was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the district unit of Karnataka working journalists' association as well as convention of Kannada journalists that was held on Sunday March 7 at Highway Castle auditorium in the city.

Madan further said, "The love for native language shown by the Kannadigas of the border region is the inspiration for pro-Kannada activities in this district."

The programme was presided over by Shivananda Tagadoor, president of the Karnataka working journalists' association.

Tagadoor said, "The facilities that are available to the journalists of Karnataka, should be made available to the journalists of border districts also. The effort of journalists of border districts to preserve the Kannada language is appreciable. All the members have to work towards taking the association forward in a creative manner by honouring the senior journalists and also following their ideals."

Srinivas Nayak Indaje, president of Dakshina Kannada district working journalists' association, Ibrahim Adkasthala, secretary, Golden Abdul Khader, zilla panchayat member, Rons Bantwal, president of Maharashtra unit of Kannada working journalists' association, Achyutha Chewar, immediate past president of Kannada journalists' association and A R Subbiah Katte, district president of KUWJ were present.

Senior journalists Malar Jayaram Rai, T Shankaranarayana Bhat, Radhakrishna Uliathadka, Kidur Shankaranarayana Bhat, K Bhaskar, B P Sheni and Devadas Parakatte were felicitated on the occasion.

Arogya Card facility for the district journalists was symbolically opened by Shivananda Tagadoor. Janapada artiste Pushpavati Nettanige, Fancy Dress artiste Mammunhi Paivalike and Yoga expert Abhijna were also felicitated on the occasion.

Ravi Naikapu welcomed the gathering and compered the programme. Saibhadra Rai rendered the vote of thanks. A musical programme was held by Haridasa Jayananda Kumar Hosadurga and team.
