Kolar, Mar 5: A theft-accused attacked police sub-inspector from Bengaluru, Harinathi Babu, with a sword, causing his right hand to snap. The sub-inspector also suffered injuries to his left hand. The incident happened on the night of Wednesday March 3 at Lourdu Nagar within the limits of Anderson Pet police station in KGF.

Lourdu Nagar is a notorious hideout for thieves where several gangs function. The stolen gold is turned into solid bars of gold before being sold. The gangs also have a well-oiled network of legal protection and getting bail.

After providing treatment at the KGF government hospital, the sub-inspector was admitted into Hosmat Hospital Bengaluru for advanced treatment. The accused, identified as Appen (28), has absconded. The police are trying to arrest him.

The police of Mahadevapur station at Bengaluru had got information that the theft-accused Appen was at Lourdu Nagar. Su-inspector of the station, Harinathi Babu, went there with three of the policemen of his station at 11 pm on Wednesday. As soon as the sub-inspector entered his home, Appen attacked him with a sword. Harinath Babu blocked Appen with his right hand as a result of which his right hand was severed.

It is said that even after the incident, the accused remained at his home till 6 am on Thursday.
