Kundapur: Accumulated silt dries up Kadubinakere pond beforehand

Kundapur, Feb 27: Kadubinakere pond, a waterbody located in Hosadu village near Gangolli has been suffering from utter neglect since the last two decades. Because of sediment and silt that has accumulated here, lt he 7.3 acre pond has turned into a barren stretch of land now.

Kadubinakere used to be the main source of water for people living in villages like Kopparige, Kammarakodlu and Mooginabail. Agriculture undertaken in about 400 acres of land used to be fed from this pond. Now the pond is getting dry beforehand as a result of which farmers from the area are wary of growing paddy. The area of agricultural land that is left to go barren is increasing every year because of water problem.

In the past, depending on the water from this pond, farmers were able to raise three crops. Now, during the summer months, there is not enough water even for the birds to drink. Hosadu villagers have blamed officials of the minor irrigation department for failing to execute rejuvenation plans for this pond and see that it reverts to its past glory again.

How about creating a small fund (like "GO FUND ME") for capital needs (for trucks and JCB/Excavators etc.,) and villagers contributing labour and start rebuilding the pond slowly, starting from the center of the pond???? Then you own the pond and will be proud of it
