Metroman Sreedharan 'turns villain' after decision to join BJP

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 25 (IANS): No doubt, E.Sreedharan popularly known as the Metroman has enjoyed a cult image not only in Kerala, but across the country for his work. He has earned respect cutting across political lines.

However, things took a nose-dive from the moment state BJP president K.Surendran, last week broke the news that the 88-year-old will not only join the BJP, but also contest the upcoming assembly polls.

Elattuvalapil Sreedharan is credited with changing the face of public transport in India with his leadership in building the Konkan Railway and the Delhi Metro while he served as the managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Later he helmed several other metro projects in key cities.

After Surendran played to the gallery, all were waiting for the hugely popular engineer for confirmation or not, and the moment he came out with the "yes" for BJP, many responded with shock.

On Thursday morning, a police official attached to the Ponnani Police station, in Sreedharan's hometown in Malappuram, told IANS that quite a few complaints have started coming over the phone against Sreedharan for his statement that came in an English TV news channel.

"Till now we have received oral complaints against Sreedharan. The police will look into it and do it according to the rules. So one will have to wait on what happens to these oral complaints," said the police official who did not wish to be identified.

These oral complaints have come following his statement about Love Jihad- (on how a number of Hindu and Christian women were victims of Love Jihad) and that he does not like people who eat beef.

There has been a sharp spike in anti-Sreedharan posts on social media following his political decision.

Both the CPI-M-led Left and the Congress-led UDF have expressed surprise at his decision

Now all eyes are on Sreedharan when he will be officially given the BJP membership when the statewide yatra led by Surendran reaches Malappurram district.

Sreedharan is an upright gentleman and his entry into BJP will pay party rich dividends, especially from fence sitting Hindus. Surendran should discuss with Amit Sha h and Modi and project Sreedharan as CM candidate. He's the best BJP can get in Kerala.

Sreedharan by his entry into the BJP has lost the goodwill of many people across the country and especially his large crowd of admirers and well wishers in Kerala. Unlikely that he would don the mantle of an opportunist at this age of 88 as prima facie and in all probability it appears to be back pressure from the ED or IT Dept either on him or his near and dear ones for this totally unexpected volta face. One gets reminded of SM Krishna of Karnataka for the such a summer saullt. Sreedharan's foray into active politics at 88 gives hope to Advani and his like who have been sidelined for reasons of advanced age. Nothing but sensation politics of the BJP either of luring opposition politicians or Actors, Cricketers and with no one taking their bait in Kerala Sreedharan fell for the bait like our opportunistic politicians. He is now rattling prepared texts of the BJP/RSS. What a climb down for a Righteous and an Impeccable Gentleman until yesterday.

true to stereotype, this man has built halo around him as metro man.... basically he is railway employee. as such he was in charge of many projects including metro. projects as metro / railways etc. are not one man show... and metro / tube technology / engineering is not his invention... this technology / construction was new to India at that time, this metro thing was in vogue for more than century in UK... any officer of Railways would have done good job, if not better. All senior officials in Railways are Engineering graduates from good institutes and again they are selected based on All India selection process.

In Kerala, going against Christians/Muslims does not quite work politically. Beef is eaten by the majority of Kerala Hindus too. So this Metroman will be a non-starter. Of course, the EVMs may have a different opinion.

Kerala is a very different state when it comes to playing politics by people like daku and feku or sreedharan.. Keralites dont care anyone if they criticize their living style.. Noone has asked this old goon to eat beef. why he should tell openly that he does not like people who eat beef. He will be taught a fitting lesson if he does anything in Kerala..Outside Kerala is different matter. He can come to mangagala ooru and blabber anything as there are many monkeys of rightwing who will suppor
