Bengaluru, Feb 19: The 13th Bengaluru International Film Festival will be held from March 24 to 31.

The Bengaluru International Film Festival organising committee which met in Bengaluru under the chairmanship of chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday decided to hold the prestigious event in Bengaluru on the theme, 'The Importance of Indian Performing Arts.’

The 13th Bengaluru International Film Festival is being held under the joint auspices of the Karnataka government’s information and publicity department and the Karnataka Film Academy, and the chief minister unveiled the logo of the 13th Bengaluru International Film Festival.



The chief minister, in his opening remarks, said the Bengaluru International Film Festival has received recognition and wide acclaim from different parts of the country and from other countries and pointed out that there were enough indications of the Bengaluru International Film Festival getting international recognition from FIAPF. "This is a welcome development,’’ he said directing that the festival must be organized by adhering to the COVID protocols and safety guidelines.

The state information and publicity minister C C Patil said about 200 best films from over 50 countries would be exhibited on the 11 screens of PVR Cinemas in Orion Mall in Rajajinagar of Bengaluru.

There will be special competitive categories of films such as Asian cinema, Chitrabharati for Indian films and Kannada films besides panorama of world cinema, grand classics and films of Indian, foreign and Kannada cinema stalwarts along with the award-winning films from the Federation of International Film Critics during the seven days of the show in Bengaluru, said Karnataka Film Academy chairman, Suril Puranik.

Apart from the screening of the internationally acclaimed films, the film festival will have a dialogue with noted film directors, artists and technicians from India and foreign countries. The film festival will also serve as a platform for introducing the creative talents of Kannada cinema to the international audience and experts, Sunil Puranik explained.

Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president, D R Jairaj, Kannada actors Shruti, Tara Anuradha, film producer Rockline Venkatesh, state information and publicity department secretary, Anjum Parvej and commissioner P S Harsha attended the meeting.

Israel’s MAZ Investments Ltd director meets CM

Earlier, Israel’s MAZ Investments Ltd director, Akiba Penkar and Simba Group executive partner, Ami Mesika called on chief minister B S Yediyurappa at his office in Vidhana Soudha.

The meeting involved discussion on the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project, according to an official press release.
