Mangaluru: Lions Ashoka Seva Bhavan building inaugurated

Mangaluru, Feb 16: “It is commendable that service-oriented organizations such as Lions Club Ashoknagar, here, are taking care of physically challenged children,” said Lion Dr Shantharam Shetty, district former governor of Lions Club. Lion Dr Shantharam Shetty inaugurated the new Lions Ashoka Seva Bhavan building constructed by Lions Club Ashoknagar in the city as a daycare centre for physically challenged children. He added that on an average, one out of every 100 people in the country suffer from a minor disability problem and by doing this kind of service, Lions Club Ashoknagar can build confidence among the lives of physically challenged children.

It is customary for the Lions Club governor to visit the club every year on January 26. Accordingly, with the Lion 317D governor's visit this year, Ln Dr Geethprakaash, and Dr Gayatri G Prakaash visited the club and reviewed the activities of the club. They appreciated all the activities of the club and gave suitable suggestions accordingly.

Speaking on the occasion, Ln Geethprakaash said that the Lions Club, which had a history of 40 years is recognized in society for its unique social service work.

He further said that Lions Ashoka Seva Bhavan has been built and dedicated for social service at a cost of about Rs 90 lac and it is praiseworthy to strive for the betterment of physically challenged children.

The chief guest of the occasion, Vedhavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru said that the club's activities had made him so happy that he became a member of the club to encourage such activities and promised to help Lions Club Ashoknagar as much as possible from the grants given to him by the government.

Shakila Kava, corporator of MCC inaugurated the Republic Day programme by unfurling the National flag which was also a part of the inaugural event. Chief guests on the occasion, first VDG of Lion district 317D Ln Vasanth Kumar Shetty and second VDG Ln Sanjith Shetty extended their good wishes on the occasion.

Purushotham Kottary, owner of Sri Navadurga Constructions who built the new building and NITK engineers Professor Babu Narayan and Satyaranjan were honoured on the occasion.

Founder member of Lions Club Ashokanagar and president of A J Shetty group of companies, A J Shetty and MLA Vedavyas Kamath were also honoured by Dr Shantharam Shetty.

The programme was presided over by Dr Naveen Shetty K, president of Lions Club Ashoknagar Charitable Trust and chairman of the building committee. Secretary Vasanth Shetty, joint secretary Narayana M, treasurer Prashanth B Shetty, president of Ashokanagar Lions Club Prajwala P Shetty, secretary Anusha P Shetty and treasurer Kusuma Udaya Rao were present.

Dr Vasanth Kumar and Prashant B Shetty compered the programme. Ln Manju and Niharika rendered prayers. Anusha Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
