Women's Rights Panel Seeks Report on Delhi Honour Killings


New Delhi, Jun 17 (IANS): The National Commission for Women (NCW) Thursday sought a report from the Delhi Police into the gruesome murders of a 19-year-old girl and her boyfriend by her father and uncle, being described as a case of honour killing.

Taking suo motu cognizance of the incident, NCW chairperson Girija Vyas asked the police to give an action taken report furnishing the details about the incident, an official statement said here.

Asha and Yogesh Kumar were found dead Monday at her uncle Om Prakash's house in north Delhi's Swaroop Nagar with multiple stab wounds and clear signs that they had been tortured.

Police described the murders as honour killings and arrested the girl's father, Suraj Kumar Saini, and uncle Om Prakash late Monday after they confessed to the crime.
