UN Security Council Meets on Iran Draft Sanctions

New York, May 19 (DPA) UN Security Council members were handed a new draft resolution Tuesday for fresh sanctions against Iran.

The council's 15 members held the closed-door session at UN headquarters in New York to take a first reading of the draft, within hours of US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's announcement in Washington that UN powers had agreed on the text.

The draft had not been made public. Washington said it expects a vote "within weeks".
