Soldier Killed, Captain Wounded in Kashmir Gunfight


Srinagar, May 5 (IANS) An army soldier was killed and an officer Wednesday injured in an ongoing gunfight between separatist guerrillas and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, police said.

"The encounter started late Tuesday evening. One captain and a soldier of the army were wounded when militants fired at a raiding party of the security forces in Chatibandi village."

"The soldier later succumbed to his injuries while the captain has been shifted for treatment. More reinforcements have been rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon at the encounter site," a senior police officer here said.
