Assets of Rs 2 crore Found in Tax Official's Home


Bhopal, April 27 (IANS) A raid in a tax official's house in Indore in Madhya Pradesh has yielded assets worth Rs.2 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income. The officer has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, police said Tuesday.

Searches that continued till late Monday at the house of Assistant Commercial Tax officer Bhim Singh Thakur yielded cash, jewellery and property worth over Rs.2 crore.

Sleuths found an LCD TV, a 34-inch colour TV, an air conditioner, two SUVs as well as Rs.1.80 lakh in cash, bank deposits of Rs.21.5 lakh, LIC policies with annual premium of Rs.5 lakh and jewellery worth Rs.14 lakh.

Documents showed that apart from the three-storied house in Anand Nagar in Indore, the official owned a house, a three-storied building and a warehouse.

Apart from this, Thakur also owned four plots in main localities and eight agriculture plots worth over Rs.20 lakh in villages Umria Khurd and Songuralia, police said.
