Goa Tweets to Refurbish Image, Market Itself

Panaji, April 13 (IANS) The Goa Tourism Development Corportaion (GTDC) has begun using the social networking and micro-blogging site Twitter to market Goa as a safe tourism destination.

"We are the first state government-run tourism organization to be on Twitter. We have already tweeted out details of our summer packages," GTDC public relations officer Deepak Narvekar told IANS.

"GTDC believes that using innovative and popular platforms like Twitter and Facebook will enhance the image of Goa and help reach out to new clients and keep in touch with existing ones," he said, adding that any news, information or event, which projects Goa well, would be flashed using the networking tool.

About 2.4 million tourists visit Goa every year, of which nearly half a million are foreigners. But the state's image had taken a battering for many crimes against foreign tourists in the recent past.
