Panaji, Apr 7:
Goa Children’s Court was told today by a police constable who was the first policemen to see Scarlet’s body that he came to know about her name, a month later, that too through media.

Constable Vishant Chopdekar, one amongst the two policemen, who visited Anjuna shore on February 18 morning, said that he did not know who the lady was for next about a month.

“I came to know about the name of said lady (scarlet) after about one month,” he said.

Two more witnesses – head constables Atmaram Gawas and Kishor Kumar Naik, also testified before the court today.

Chopdekar said that when we saw the body first tide water was splashing the body. He along with Constable Gurunath Naik were the first two witnesses, who were examined by Goa Children’s Court, after the trial in the sensational death case began, this week.

He said that when they arrived on the scene body was lying on the stomach, almost nude except for the undergarment on the top portion.

“I also noticed the orange colour chappals lying at around two to three metres from the said body,” Chopdekar said.

CBI’s public prosecutor S R Rivonkar took his witness before judge B P Deshpande.

“Since the water was splashing the body, I along with Gurunath lifted the body and kept it around two metres away,” he added.

Chopdekar said that they asked a local named Baptist to provide one bedsheet for covering the body and accordingly he brought one bedsheet and the body was covered.

Defence lawyer Ryan Menezes defending accused Samson D’Souza in his cross examination tried to point a contradiction in the statements given by the constable.

He pointed out that Chopdekar in his statement to CBI had mentioned that they made inquiries with Baptist whether he made phone call to the police station informing about the body.

The constable had left the spot around 10 minutes later when police sub inspector Lakshi Amonkar along with lady police constable Reshma arrived at the spot.
