Panaji: Dr Ram Manohar Lohia’s Centenary Symposium to be Held on Mar 21

Panaji, Mar 15:  Sahitya Akademi, Kala Academy and Goa Konkani Akademi will jointly hold a Centenary Symposium on Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and a Poet’s Meet at Black Box, Kala Academy, Campal here on Sunday March 21.

J Ponnudurai, officer-in-charge Sahitya Akademi, Mumbai will welcome the gathering. Pundalik N Naik, convenor, Konkani Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi will deliver the introductory remarks. Surendra Mohan will be the chief guest. N Shivdas, president, Goa Konkani Akademi will be the guest of honour. Aditya Prasad Tripathi will deliver the keynote address. Pandurang Phaldesai, member secretary, Kala Academy will propose the vote of thanks.

The first session will begin at 11.30 am. Uday Bhembre will chair the session. There will be presentations from Bhushan Bhave, Ramesh Gawas and Rajendra Desai.

The second session will commence at 2.30 pm. Amrut Kansar will chair the session. Madhavi Sardesai, Shambhu Bhau Bandekar, R V Joglekar will make presentations.

Third session, poet’s meet will start at 4.15 pm. Gajanan Raikar, Ramesh Veluskar, Rohitashwa Sharma, Dadu Mandrekar, Melvyn Rodrigues, Sachin Kandolkar and Arun Naik will be the participants.

Valedictory session will be held at 5 pm. Vinayak Naik will chair the session and Nagesh Karmali will deliver the valedictory address.

    His grand mission and vocation to serve our Motherland and its teeming millions continues to inspire and attract young and not so young in different parts of our country.

    Society based on transparency, fairplay, equality, fellow feeling, justice, solidarity and co-humanity is very much central to Ram Manohar Lohia's vision.

    The late Mahatma Gandhi used to say "Nature has enough for everyone's need but not enough for everyone's greed". Ram Manohar Lohia was a great follower and admirer of the Mahatma and his teachings on spiritual growth and development of our country through the practice of detachment.

    Simple living and high thinking were the chief weapons in the armoury of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia.
